Tableaux d'Exposition
Tableaux d'Exposition is a creation for one pianist and two dancers that brings Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Ravel's piano pieces and the world of Argentine tango into dialogue.
Mussorgsky wrote of his work: « Sounds and ideas hang in the air [...] My moods can be felt during the interludes. » This image extends into the piece, where the invisible crystallises in space.
The first dialogue is therefore musical. Mussorgsky and Ravel answer one another. The second is choreographic. Between the embrace of Argentine tango and the emancipation of contemporary movement, the bodies constantly negotiate between these opposing forces and the score.
At its heart, the meeting of three artists and of their worlds — at times distant, at times complicit. From picture to picture, a tension thickens the shared space and raises wider questions: the relationship to the other, to memory, to freedom.
